The number of words my 13 year old wrote during the month of NaNoWriMo. Yeah, nearly 13 THOUSAND words. An 8th grader!
Of course, being 13, she didn’t bother to tell me she was even participating in NaNo, so I didn’t find this out until after the fact. But can you see the grin on my face?
Tomorrow, I’ll tell you what I’ve been up to the past couple of days, but I wanted to get this in and give my kid her due. Â Brava!
Leave a message for her in Comments and I’ll make sure she reads it.

You utterly rock. Next time I come down, I bring you chocolate, as well.

Wow! That is incredible. I didn’t dare even attempt it. You put me to shame. Maybe next year I’ll get as brave as you are. Fantastic job!

Omigod! That’s the kind of ‘Just do it!’ attitude that will get you published at an early age!

That is so awesome!!! I’d say there’s some talented genes at work. Let us know when the book comes out–after all, Eragon did pretty well.

To those friends who used her actual name — I edited you. A mom thing; I’m sure you understand.
We just call her 13 around here.

Huge, mega congrats, 13!!!! Sounds like you’re going to be following the footsteps of your writer Mom, and that ain’t such a bad place to be! Keep on writing and don’t stop at 13,000!

This is so very impressive! I think it took me six months to write my first 13,000 words. Well done. I’m also passing your story along to my 16 year old nephew who didn’t know about NaNo until the end of November so has taken on his own challenge of doing it in December ~ and is getting downhearted. So! Not only did you do an amazing thing, you’ll be helping someone else reach their goals. Doubly amazing thing, that.

Well done you! Occasionally in life you do something that proves you can do anything you put your mind to. I think you just did that. For me it was the first time I walked the Portland to Coast relay, and the first time I had a book published. Congratulations!

The journey of a novel begins with a word. Or, in your case, almost 13K. That’s a HUGE step along the path. Congrats!

You must be so proud of this achievement! I know a lot of adults (myself included) that didn’t get that far ~LOL Well done, my girl. Now get back to work! Minnette 🙂
