Today, March 8, 2011, marks the Centenary of International Women’s Day, a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, International Women’s Day is a national holiday. The holiday was first marked in 1911 as a celebration of the Suffragettes who fought so hard for the right of women to exercise the most fundamental of citizenship rights: the right to vote.
